History of our School

The High School for Youth and Community Development (YCD) is a small school of approximately 500 students situated on the Erasmus Campus in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn. The school opened in 2004 and has experienced increases in academic success and overall school climate for the past five years.

Our student population is primarily African American (87.4%), with significant populations of Latin students, Caribbean Islanders, Southwest Asians, and South Asians.

The number of students who qualify for free lunch is about 82% and Title 1 is about 75%. Our student-with-disabilities population has increased to 22% and our ELL population is about 14%. Our attendance rate has hovered around 88% for the last two years.
